Paola and Drew’s story began in 2012 at her birthday gathering. From the very beginning, there was something easy and genuine about the way they connected — just two people who naturally ended up talking, as if it had always been the most normal thing in the world. Their conversations would drift from science to life to the most random topics, the kind that made everyone else slowly wander off, while the two of them stayed right there, completely comfortable, talking and laughing like time didn’t matter.

What started as easy conversation quickly turned into a three-hour phone call that carried them through the night and into midnight, as they quietly welcomed Drew’s birthday together over the phone on December 31. Somewhere between the laughter, stories, and effortless conversation, something familiar began to grow — a gentle sense of comfort, as if the words between them had always known how to find their way, naturally and without force.

A week later, they watched the Georgia game together — despite Drew being an Auburn fan, which Paola still lovingly considers one of the earliest signs of love disguised as sacrifice (because honestly… who willingly does that? He must really like her). A few days later, Drew invited Paola to watch a movie. The night felt soft and unassuming — both of them acting calm on the outside while secretly wondering what the other was thinking.

At the end of the night, he dropped her off, hugged her goodbye… kissed her…

and then immediately said, “I’m sorry.”

As if he wanted to make sure it was right, not just in that moment, but in everything that followed.

Eight months later, they bought their home together — not out of rush or expectation, but because life had already shown them, especially through a season where Paola sustained a foot fracture and nerve injury, and Drew cared for her day and night with patience, love, and steady support for four months, that they were already home to each other. It became one of those moments where everything felt clear — no big decision needed, just a natural next step in a story already unfolding.
